Downtown Date Night

This past weekend my 'boyfriend' and I got the opportunity (thanks to the grandparents!) to go out on the town all by ourselves.  And since we love it so much, we chose downtown.  Downtown Tulsa that is.  Having grown up in Tulsa it has been fantastic to see new and exciting businesses, shopping and nightlife emerging there in recent years.
For better or worse we've seen the additions of large scale happenings such as the BOK Center and the new Drillers baseball stadium.  But what I really love about downtown are the smaller places like the restaurants (McNellie's and El Guapo's among others), eateries such as the original Coney Island, the Blue Dome Cafe (best breakfast hands down) and Joe Momma's Pizza (try their Cheeseburger pizza, yum!) and locally owned shops such as Dwelling Spaces.  These are just a few of the places that make the new Downtown Tulsa so fantastic to visit.
It's not just the new I love either.  I love the fabulous old skyscrapers, warehouses and churches.  The architecture is so beautiful and has always been a favorite of mine to photograph.
After dining on cottage pie and chili cheeseburgers at McNellie's, this super-cute guy I know (aka the Husband) drove me around downtown and let me snap random photographs.  Enjoy!

Please excuse the dark photographs (I'm still learning how to do night photography).

Ahhhhh...love this city!

Little Red Dress

One good thing, besides spending a lot of time together as a family, that came from the Oklahoma blizzard and the re-blizzard is all the knitting that took place.  I was able to finish this pretty little number just in time for Valentine's Day.  Every girl needs a pretty little red dress don't you think?

It's knit in the inexpensive yarn by Red Heart called Eco-Cotton.  It's made from 75% recycled cotton (I think from t-shirts).  It's soft and easily washable.  The pattern is a Ravelry download called Kaia babydoll.  Ravelry link

"Sweet!  The Daily Show is on!"

"Oh Jon Stewart...I love you so much!"

"Go away Mom!  I want to watch Jon Stewart in peace!"

"You can come back later when it's over.  Actually, make that after The Colbert Report."

Knitting and Coffee

These are my two current favorite pastimes.  And lucky for me they go together like peas and carrots...like Forrest and Jen-nay...like chocolate and um, chocolate...like alcohol and getting pregnant...wait, just kidding on that one.

So if you're wondering (and I know inquiring minds would like to know) what I've been up to, it's a pretty safe bet that I've been doing one or the other or both at the same time.  Besides a cute little dress I knit for Molly (that's for another post coming up), here are the things that are currently on (and off) the needles:

Not naming any names here, ahem Morgan ahem, but someone wouldn't get out of my shot.

Here are a baby vest and a hat for the hubby in progress (I will post details when complete).

Here is a skinny scarf pour moi that probably has more fashionable value than warmth value.  It's just a simple rib pattern on big needles made from a soft alpaca blend.  Also shown are a little gnome hat for a special kid (more on this later as well) and on the needles is a toddler cardigan for Ms. Plum.  It's the February Baby Sweater on two needles by Elizabeth Zimmermann sized up for a toddler by using an aran weight yarn and size 8 needles.  Ravelry link

Also, I wanted to tell you that I have a new favorite way of brewing coffee.  My french press.

The taste of coffee made with it is far superior to the coffee made from my drip coffee maker.  That is all.
Have a good rest of the day!!!

Hello Monday!

Today I could certainly use some inspiration.  I'm having to take a few deep breaths and realize that sometimes your child just won't take a good nap and MAY just be having a cranky whiny day.  And that's okay.  That's just the way it is.  I still love her and she's still my little Valentine.  And to be fair, she hasn't been whiny the WHOLE day.  And I have EVIDENCE by these pictures I just took:

So I KNOW for at least 4 seconds of today she has not been whiny.  What a goober.

So here are a few things I will be drawing inspiration from this week besides the above pictures of my silly kiddo:

I'm knitting this for an upcoming baby.

Gonna try to do some birdwatching this week.

This skirt is awfully cute.

Hedgehogs!

Meerkats!

Nothing

Have a peaceful week!

Be Mine.

Happy Valentine's Day!
